Apple tipped to bring Android-style swipe keyboard option to iOS

Apple could be bringing a swipe keyboard option to iPhones like this one.

It seems like everyone steals from everyone in the smartphone space. Apple is apparently next in line to do the cribbing, as it’s reportedly bringing a swipe keyboard option to iOS.

According to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the plans, Apple is testing the ability to swipe across letters to type words. This means you don’t have to lift your finger to type out a word, as is the case with traditional virtual keyboards.

Editor's Pick

The Cupertino company may have been inspired by the likes of Swype, Swiftkey, and Gboard, as they’ve all offered swipe support for years now. The likes of Swiftkey are available on iOS too, but a first-party option means you get this functionality out of the box — no need to install anything.

It wouldn’t be the first time Apple has swiped features from the Android ecosystem, either. Some of the more prominent Android features available on iOS include widgets, a notification shade, file manager, and third-party keyboards. But Android OEMs have also swiped features from Apple, including Memoji, 3D face unlock, and gestures (although other platforms did the latter first).
