Google Pixel Buds 2 product listing briefly surfaces, suggests imminent launch
Update: April 6, 2020 (11:09 AM ET): The Pixel Buds 2 briefly surfaced on US-based retail store Abt Electronics‘ website before the company promptly removed the product page (h/t: Android Police). The listing didn’t reveal anything new about the earbuds, but it confirmed their $179 price tag, 12mm dynamic speaker drivers, touch controls, water resistance, Fast Pair support, and more. This is just further evidence that the Pixel Buds 2 could see an imminent release.
Original article: March 26, 2019 (6:24 AM ET): Google announced the Pixel Buds 2 alongside the Pixel 4 series back in October, but it only gave a vague Spring 2020 launch date for the new audio accessory.
Now, MySmartPrice has spotted a listing for the Pixel Buds 2 (or rather “Google Wireless” earphones) on the FCC website, suggesting that the earbuds are close to seeing a commercial release. However, it remains to be seen whether the COVID-19 pandemic could result in the launch being delayed.
The filing doesn’t tell us anything else about the new ‘buds, but we already went hands-on with them at Google’s October 2019 launch event. The Google Pixel Buds 2 are true wireless designs, with no cable between the two earbuds like the original release. Furthermore, you’re also getting long-range Bluetooth connectivity, five hours of battery life (or 19 hours with the case), and the ability to use either earbud as the primary earbud (e.g. for call and music controls).
The FCC listing comes several weeks after the ‘buds made an appearance on the Wireless Power Consortium website, although the filing has reportedly been pulled since then. The WPC appearance nevertheless confirms 5W wireless charging for the case, which should be fast enough to top up the Pixel Buds 2 in no time.
Google previously revealed that the new earbuds will set you back $179, and you can join the waitlist over here.
