Here’s when the Sony a7S III will make its debut (Update: Possible price)
Update: July 28 2020 (5AM ET): It seems like Sony’s upcoming a7S III camera could have a noteworthy price increase over its predecessor. Twitter tipster Nokishita (h/t: SonyAlphaRumors) got hold of an apparent German-language press release, revealing that the camera will have a price tag of roughly €4,200 (~$4,919). By comparison, the a7S II launched at €3,400 (~$3,983) back in 2015.
The release also supposedly gives us a few more specs, including a 12MP full-frame sensor, a BIONZ-XR processor, 4K/120fps video recording, and eye recognition for animals. We’ll need to wait until 10AM ET today to find out whether these specs and the price are indeed real.
Original article: July 17 2020 (5:45AM ET): Sony has confirmed the launch date for its upcoming professional mirrorless camera, the a7S III. In an update to its Alpha Universe news site, Sony revealed that the camera will be announced on July 28 at 10AM ET.
Beyond that, nothing notable has been revealed about the camera, but there’s an extensive rumor train with big numbers and tasty specs chugging around the internet.
Earlier this week, SonyAlphaRumors suggested the latest professional Alpha could sport a “simple” 12MP sensor or a 48MP Quad-Bayer sensor. For videographers, 10-bit 4K video at 120fps is also rumored, as well as 1080p at 240fps slow-motion video capture.
None of these specs have been confirmed by Sony just yet, but none seem markedly out of reach for the company either.
