Here’s when the OnePlus Z will be officially revealed
- OnePlus is launching an affordable mid-range phone
- The device might launch in India on July 10
- The phone could be priced as low as ~Rs. 25,000 (~$330) in India
Last month, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau revealed in an interview that the company is looking at more affordable phones. Now, it appears we might have a firm launch date for the OnePlus Z in India
A fresh leak (h/t Android Central) reveals that the mid-range smartphone might finally launch in India on July 10. This follows a series of apparent delays, likely due to the coronavirus pandemic.
OnePlus dominates the premium smartphone segment in India, but the bulk of sales still lie in the fast-growing affordable mid-range segment. As such, it makes sense for the company to go up against Xiaomi and Realme in the sub $350 segment.
Rumored specs include a Snapdragon 765 series chipset, 90Hz Super AMOLED display, as well as a versatile camera configuration that includes a 48MP primary camera, a 16MP ultra-wide sensor, and a dedicated macro camera. The OnePlus Z or the OnePlus 8 Lite as it might be known is rumored to be priced as low as $330 or Rs. 25,000 in India which should make it a competitive alternative to the Redmi K-series hardware.
The OnePlus Z follows the launch of the affordable Bullets Wireless Z earphones as well as an announcement alluding to the launch of entry-level and mid-range smart televisions. As such, it only makes sense that the company will want to round off the ecosystem with a smartphone to match.
