No Google I/O? No problem: Android 11 Beta Launch Show confirmed

With Google I/O officially canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve all been waiting to hear whether the search giant would press forward with an online event instead. Well, mark your calendars for June 3, when Google will be livestreaming “Android 11: The Beta Launch Show.”

The event will be hosted by Dave Burke, Google’s vice president of engineering for Android, and is set to kick off at 11AM ET. The show, which will almost certainly be held on YouTube, will be followed by a live Q&A session with Burke and other experts from the Android team. A blurb for the show reads:

Join us as we unveil new features packed inside the next release, Android 11, as well as updates for developers to help them get the most out of modern Android development.

You can read more about the show over on the Android Developers website. Details are thin, but judging by the name there’s a good chance it’ll coincide with the launch of the official Android 11 beta and mark the end of the Developer Preview phase.

Google has also made a funky trailer (embedded above) for The Beta Launch Show narrated by George Takei which teases a bunch of announcements, including a possible hint that we’ll see the Pixel 4a at the show.

Beyond The Beta Show and the Q&A, Google will also be holding talks on “a range of topics,” including Jetpack Compose, Android Studio, and Google Play that were originally intended for Google I/O.
