Next-generation Samsung Galaxy Buds could tout ANC and a sub-$150 price tag

Update: April 9, 2020 (11:02 AM ET): A new report from South Korean news outlet The Maeil Daily reveals some potentially new information about Samsung’s upcoming wireless earbuds. These bean-like buds could tout active noise canceling and a reasonable 170,000 won (~$140) price tag. This would be great news since ANC is a feature many of us wanted on the Galaxy Buds Plus, and that price point means the added functionality wouldn’t increase the cost of the updated earbuds.

The report also claims they should feature 11 hours of use on a single charge, but it doesn’t mention the specific battery capacity. Each earbud should measure in at 28mm long and 13mm wide, while the charging cradle should be about 26mm thick. It goes on to say Samsung plans to release these new earbuds alongside the Galaxy Note 20 later this year, but none of this is confirmed, so take it all with a grain of salt.

Original: April 5, 2020 (3:15 PM ET): The Samsung Galaxy Buds and the Galaxy Buds Plus both had basically the same design, but it seems the next version of Samsung’s wireless earbuds may get a big makeover. According to Winfuture.de, the new look of the next Galaxy Buds will resemble the shape of beans.

Winfuture.de has created some renders of what this new design might look like. The renders were reportedly based on Samsung’s 3D data for the upcoming accessory. Samsung has not confirmed any news about this reported design change.

The renders show that the bean-like design won’t include the stems that go into a person’s ear, unlike the two previous Galaxy Buds. Instead, the new design may allow the owner to place the lower half of the beans inside the ear, and the upper half is placed in the upper part of the ear.

The lower portion of the earbuds, as shown in the renders, is where the two small loudspeakers are presumably located. The article also claims the new earbuds will have a number of built-in microphones, and possibly a sensor to detect whether or not they are placed in the ear.

The article does claim that not all of the testing for these new Galaxy Buds have been completed. Therefore, even if these renders do come from Samsung’s 3D data, it’s possible some design changes could be made after testing is finished. Other details, such as battery life, have also not been revealed. If Samsung does indeed release this new version with its unusual design, it’s possible it could launch alongside the Galaxy Note 20 later this year.

What do you think of this bean inspired look for the next-gen Galaxy Buds? A step forward or backward? Of course, you can still get the Galaxy Buds Plus for about $140 if you prefer its design and aren’t interested in waiting for whats next.
