We’re just over a week away from the LG Velvet launch and we already know plenty about LG’s brand new flagship. However, there’s bad news for those still holding out hope that this new phone could live alongside the LG G series.

Leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) has shared an official render of the LG Velvet taken from the Wireless Power Consortium. There’s not too much to say about the render — it’s the same phone we saw in an official LG video, no less — but Blass also shared the model number: LM-G900N.

For those unfamiliar with LG’s model names, the company’s V series and G series devices traditionally follow the LM-VXXX and LM-GXXX formats respectively. For example, the LG V60 has the model number LM-V600 and the vanilla LG G8 is LM-G820.

The fact that LG has co-opted the G series numbering format for its fresh “mass-market flagship” could be the final nail in the coffin for any hope of an LG G9.

There’s still plenty to be excited about, though. The LG Velvet is aesthetically the most interesting LG flagship since perhaps the LG G5. It’s also packing the mid-tier Snapdragon 765G chipset, and it’ll be fascinating to see if the 5G-supporting SoC can match Snapdragon 865-powered rivals. Will you mourn the death of the LG G series?
