OnePlus 7T, 7T Pro gets first Open Beta, along with Live Caption
Update, March 12 2020 (8:30AM ET): OnePlus has published the first Open Beta for the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro (h/t: Android Police), and it brings several tweaks and one major addition.
The new update weighs in at 2.5GB and brings the February 2020 security patch, better RAM management, and several fixes. But the biggest addition might be Live Caption, following in the footsteps of the Google Pixel series and Galaxy S20 family. Live Caption uses on-device machine learning to generate captions for web and local videos. Check out the changelog below.
System
• Optimized RAM management
• Enhanced single and double tap performance of Ambient display and lock screen
• Improved content now live on settings page
• Updated Android Security patch to 2020.02
Live Caption
• Added live caption feature, this will detect speech in media and automatically generates captions (to enable: Settings>System>Accessibility>Live Caption)
Phone
• Enhanced the contact details screen
Gallery
• Fixed the audio and video issues with preloading videos
Hopefully we see Live Caption in particular come to older OnePlus phones in the near future, as it’s a pretty handy feature. Whether you’ve got hearing difficulties or simply want to watch a clip without turning up the volume, it’s a neat use of on-device machine learning.
