Do you use dark mode on your phone? (Poll of the Week)
If a dark mode exists on any product I own, there’s almost a 100% chance I’ll enable it. Maybe it’s because I use phones that don’t last very long on a charge, or maybe I’m just so used to looking at an interface that doesn’t blind me when I unlock my phone in bed. Whatever the reason, I’m all-in on dark mode.
Not everyone feels the same way I do. While there are benefits to using a darker interface, dark mode also makes text harder to read, harder to comprehend, and can make you feel discomfort when you do look at a bright screen.
Google is doing what it can to bring dark mode to just about every part of your smartphone. Android 10 introduced a dark theme to Pixel phones, most Google apps support dark mode, and Google is letting Pixel users schedule dark mode to turn on and off at a specific time in Android 11. This feature is partially available to Pixel phones already, thanks to the new Feature Drop rolled out today.
What about you? All-in on dark mode, or do you prefer lighter interfaces? Also, I’m talking dark mode as a whole — as a smartphone them, inside apps, the works. Cast your vote below and speak up in the comments with your thoughts.
