What’s new on Netflix in September 2019 – The Politician and more
September has arrived, and so has the latest rundown of new and returning classic films and TV on Netflix, along with new original movies and TV shows that are only found on Netflix. This month we get the first original Netflix series from major TV creator Ryan Murphy, along with a movie version of Between Two Ferns and much more.
Here’s a look at some of the highlights of the new and original additions on Netflix for September 2019, followed by the full list of the new shows and movies on the streaming service this month, plus what’s leaving Netflix in August as well.
September 27 – The Politician (Season 1)
In 2018, Netflix lured away mega-TV creator and producer Ryan Murphy from Fox and FX (Glee, Pose, American Horror Story) to create original series for the streaming service. This month we get his first effort for Netflix, The Politician. It stars Ben Platt as a wealthy student who sees becoming the President of the U.S. as his destiny. He starts his political career when he runs for the student body president position in his high school. It looks like this show will be a mix of dark comedy and satire, and it also has some big supporting star power with Gwyneth Paltrow and Murphy’s American Horror Story and Feud star Jessica Lange in key roles.
September 20 – Between Two Ferns: The Movie
Zach Galifianakis created the YouTube comedy interview series Between Two Ferns several years ago and it became a viral sensation online. Its distinctive low budget look is combined with Galifianakis interviewing major celebrities and politicians with awkward questions, to say the least. The trailer for the movie shows that he will be going on a road trip to interview a ton of celebs, from Matthew McConaughey to Keanu Reeves to Chance the Rapper, with even more awkward questions.
September 12 – The I-Land (Season 1)
The premise of this show is that a group of people suddenly find themselves on a beach located on a deserted island. They don’t know where they are, and they don’t know how they got there. They don’t even remember who they are. This series sounds an awful lot like Lost, with lots of secrets to be discovered by both the main characters and the audience. Based on the trailer for The I-Land, this series, which stars Kate Bosworth, definitely will have its share of twists and turns.
