5 Android apps you shouldn’t miss this week – Android Apps Weekly

This is a screenshot of Waymo for the 289th Android Apps Weekly
Welcome to the 289th edition of Android Apps Weekly! Here are the big headlines from the last week:

  • Microsoft is bringing a Forza game to mobile later in 2019. It announced the game earlier this week. The game, Forza Street, should be fairly standard for a mobile racer. There is a single player mode with a story line as well as online multiplayer. It aims at casual gamers mostly. Hit the link to learn more!
  • The Google Play Store had a couple of big news stories this week. The first is simultaneous app downloads. This was a feature in the earlier days of Android it looks like it’s coming back. With the faster data speeds of 2019, it should make updates a lot faster. The second bit of news is a promise from Google. They want to do quicker and more detailed Play Store decisions for developers. That’s a good one for the devs.
  • Two apps were banned in various countries this week. India banned TikTok while Nepal banned PUBG Mobile. India courts felt the app was dangerous for kids. Meanwhile, Nepal says that the video game is making people aggressive. India asked Google Play and the Apple App Store to remove the app to prevent more downloads. Nepal says that video games cause aggression. They are both fairly volatile situations. Hit the link for more details.
  • Facebook made some good news this week, finally. Facebook Messenger may move back to the regular Facebook app. We at Android Authority almost unanimously believe it’s a good idea. There is evidence in the app’s code to support the rumor. It may not have the full features of the actual Messenger app, but even access to those messages is enough for most people.
  • Google and Amazon may finally bury the hatchet on a year long mini-rivalry. Google agreed to return YouTube to Fire TV devices and Amazon agreed to bring Prime Video to the Chromecast. There isn’t much else that needs said. We’re all so happy.

PGA Tour Golf Shootout

Price: Freemium

PGA Tour Golf Shootout is a casual style golf game for mobile phones. It reminds me of the old arcade golf games. You shoot the ball and try to get holes in one. The game features daily and weekly challenges, tons of loot, upgradeable equipment, an online PvP mode, and some decent graphics. The mechanics are super easy and nobody should have problems playing the game. It's a freemium game like most casual mobile games. However, aside from some early bugs, people seem to like it.

Zoho Show

Price: Free

Zoho Show is a rare new presentation app. It lets users prepare and execute presentations similar to something like Google Slides or Microsoft PowerPoint. The app comes with a bunch of themes, styles, and slide transitions. Interestingly, it also supports PowerPoint files as well. You get the usual array of modern features like cloud support, team collaboration, and Wear OS compatibility. It's also entirely free.

Cartoon Network Arcade

Price: Free (with ads)

Cartoon Network Arcade is an arcade game from, well, Cartoon Network! Obviousness aside, this one is pretty fun. The game feature a ton of free mini-games with a bunch of different mechanics. In addition, players can collect new characters while watching the shows they like on the actual network. It's a neat little TV tie in premise, but not the first time we've seen such a thing. The game is entirely free with advertising. We imagine Cartoon Network makes it money back from ad revenue from the shows you have to watch to collect all of the characters.

Waymo

Price: Free / Varies
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Waymo is a ride sharing service with self-driving vehicles. It works like any other service. You order a car, it picks you up, and then it drops you off at your destination. However, these cars have no people in them. The service is in beta right now and it's only available in the Phoenix, Arizona area for right now. Even so, there is still a waiting list before you can get in. As you can imagine, we haven't played with this one yet, so we don't know if the app has any problems yet. Keep it on your radar though!

Metal Slug Infinity

Price: Freemium
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Metal Slug is an older game series from the 1990's. It's a run-and-gun style of action game and previous mobile games were tower defense games. This one is an idle game. That means you play a very minimal role in the game. You set up your characters, weapons, etc and the characters move through the levels on their own. It also has RPG elements. The game had some serious release day issues, but most of them seem to be resolved now.
